By highlighting breakthroughs in physics, exciting news, and trends, AIP’s News and Media Services team helps deliver on the mission to advance, promote, and serve the physical sciences.

The American Institute of Physics (AIP) is seeking an enthusiastic science writing intern who is passionate about sharing cutting-edge science with journalists and the public.

SUMMARY OF ROLE:
This paid internship is focused on writing for AIP’s Media services team. This intern will write and research topics for science highlight articles, press releases, and potentially contribute to AIP's social media efforts. This paid, internship is under the direction of AIP’s Media Services team and is expected to be for 40 hours per week and last 12 weeks.

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Write and edit Scilight articles (highlights in science news);
  • Write press releases promoting upcoming scientific papers;
  • Collaborate with Media Services team to provide support for projects and assignments.
  • Contribute social media content.

 

APPLICANT REQUIREMENT:

  • This 12-week internship is 40 hours per week and open to recent graduates as well as current undergraduate and graduate students.

 

WHAT YOU WILL BRING:

  • Recent graduates (within the past 6 months) and individuals pursuing Graduate degrees in relevant fields such as Science Writing or Science.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively – written and verbally;
  • Experience in science writing is preferred.

 

Applicants must reside in Maryland, Virginia, or the District of Columbia and may be asked to attend 1 day per week in person at AIP’s offices in the DMV area. Otherwise, the internship is predominantly remote.
COMPENSATION:
The hourly pay for this internship is $15 - $18 per hour
