Summary

The American Institute of Physics (AIP) is seeking a strategic Manager, Internal Communication. In this role, you will work with senior leadership to cultivate an approach to company-wide internal communications that ensures effectiveness and consistency. The successful candidate will be proactive in their support of organizational change initiatives by developing, implementing, and managing communication campaigns to support our digital transformation and educate and engage our workforce on the company’s mission and strategic priorities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Establish and maintain an internal communications strategy in collaboration with AIP staff leadership.
  • Craft messaging and develop best communication methods for sharing information coming from the Executive Management Team and across levels of AIP, e.g. blogs, newsletters, emails, videos, responses to all staff questions, etc.
  • Assist in the crafting of change management communications as a key member of a cross-functional digital transformation initiative.
  • Ensure key organizational initiatives, programs and projects are effectively communicated to AIP employees and other adjacent stakeholders (member societies, committees, board, etc.).
  • Provide leadership for content development and manage the staff intranet to inform staff about AIP’s mission, activities, and successes and become useful repository for staff resources
  • Plan, edit and write content for a variety of internal communications mediums including, but not limited to, the annual report, staff intranet, blogs, email bulletins, and newsletters.
  • Develop draft messages, scripts and/or presentations for executive leaders to deliver at AIP and external events consistent with AIP’s editorial voice and brand image and aligned to externally communicated messages.
  • Respond to feedback and questions from staff and, when appropriate, adjust communications content accordingly.
  • Handle internal crisis communications consistent with AIP’s crisis communications plan.
  • Collect and curate staff feedback related to challenges arising from staff communications, and suggest action to senior leadership to address concerns.

Qualifications

  • BA in journalism, communications, public relations, or marketing
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills, and ability to source stories from employees
  • Strong oral communication skills to support message and presentation delivery to staff
