Who we are:

The American Institute of Physics (AIP) is a federation of 10 Member Societies which in turn have more than 130,000 members across the globe. AIP was founded in 1931 in an effort to alleviate societal and economic turmoil and to better humanity through science. Today, almost 100 years later, we further our positive impact through our mission: to advance, promote, and serve the physical sciences for the benefit of humanity. We want you to become a part of this mission!

Summary:

AIP is seeking an innovative and savvy Solutions Architect. The Solutions Architect for AIP is responsible for designing and implementing effective and scalable technology solutions that meet the needs of an organization that delivers programs and services to a federation of scientific societies. Much of that work involves content creation, information distribution and data analysis. You will be responsible for understanding the business requirements, content creation, management, distribution, and delivery processes, and then translating them into viable technical solutions. AIP recently launched a state-of-the-art digital experience platform with a new content management system, customer data platform and data warehouse. As the Solutions Architect, you’ll play a pivotal role in the ongoing development of these systems to assure their optimized use by our stakeholders.

AIP is headquartered in College Park, MD and is offering a flexible hybrid working schedule; there is opportunity to work remote in combination with working on-site.

Come join a team of energized, charismatic, collaborative, and passionate individuals and help make a difference through the physical sciences!

What you’ll do:

  • Collaborating with stakeholders from different departments to understand their needs, challenges, and objectives in order for content to fit within the needs of the enterprise architecture and existing technology landscape. This involves conducting meetings, workshops, and interviews to gather comprehensive requirements in conjunction with the business requirements analyst.
  • Collaborate with the Business Requirements Analyst and stakeholders to understand their challenges and objectives.
  • Utilizing your technical expertise, you will design end-to-end solutions that align with the organization's strategic objectives consistent with the overall Enterprise Architecture. This includes designing enhancements to the content management systems (CMS), customer data platform (CDP) and cloud-based data warehouse solution, based on the specific requirements.
  • Creating architecture diagrams and documentation that outline the proposed solutions. This involves detailing the integration points, data flow, security considerations, scalability, and performance aspects.
  • Evaluating and recommending third-party tools, platforms, or services that can enhance the organization's technical capabilities. This could involve assessing various CMS, DAM, workflow automation tools, or analytics platforms.
  • Working closely with development teams, providing them with clear guidelines and documentation, and ensuring that the solutions they build are implemented correctly and efficiently.
  • Designing and maintaining seamless integrations between different systems – internal and external to AIP -- ensuring smooth data exchange and interoperability.
  • Addressing security concerns and ensuring compliance with data protection regulations, especially if the content organization deals with sensitive information or user data.
  • Configuring and optimizing Snowflake clusters and virtual warehouses based on workload and performance requirements. This involves choosing the appropriate size and scaling options for different workloads.
  • Designing data integration strategies to ingest data from various sources into Snowflake. This might involve using Snowflake connectors, third-party tools, or custom data pipelines.
  • Ensuring that the solutions can handle increasing volumes of content and user traffic while maintaining optimal performance.
  • Striving to design cost-effective solutions by leveraging existing resources and identifying areas for optimization.
  • Keeping up-to-date with emerging technologies, best practices, and trends in content management, distribution, and delivery, as well as data management.
  • Identifying potential risks associated with the proposed solutions and devising mitigation strategies.
  • Overseeing testing processes to verify the correctness and performance of the implemented solutions.
  • Monitoring the performance of the solutions in production, gathering feedback from users, and making iterative improvements to enhance efficiency and user experience.
  • Providing technical guidance and mentoring to other team members and fostering a culture of innovation and learning within the organization.

What you’ll bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems required. AWS or MS-Azure certification preferred.
  • 3 years of experience as a Solution Architect delivering modern digital solutions.
  • Experience with cloud engineering, including designing, deploying, operating, and maintaining web-based SaaS applications.
  • Experience with the design of DevOps and CDP and CMS systems.
  • Knowledge of designing, allocating, configuring, and monitoring cloud-based resources, including data lake, visualization and networking components
  • Knowledge of AWS Well-Architected Framework, including best practice design patterns for core technologies
  • Experience with Brightspot, Blueconic or Snowflake a plus
