The American Institute of Physics (AIP) is seeking a Science Policy Analyst. The successful candidate will actively monitor and analyze developments in federal science legislation, budgets, policy actors, and related matters, for FYI, an authoritative news and resource center for federal science policy. Under the guidance of the Director of Science Policy, writes, edits, and publish content for multiple FYI products as part of an editorial team. Make contributions to the development of a growing suite of new and existing FYI products. Work to grow the visibility and readership of FYI in the national physical sciences community and in Washington, D.C.

Essential Functions:

Actively monitors and analyzes developments in federal science legislation, budgets, leadership, and other policy developments related to the physical sciences:

• Identifies and closely tracks federal science legislation, budgets, and policymakers; maintains relationships with science policymakers;
• Monitors and attends congressional hearings, briefings, speeches, press events, conferences, federal advisory committee meetings, and other events important to science policy;
• Follows major White House and federal agency announcements on science policy, budgets, and leadership; as needed, attends periodic community-based science advocacy coalitions.
• Disseminates authoritative, objective, and timely information on federal science legislation, budgets, and leadership: Under the guidance of the Director of Science Policy, writes, edits, and publishes content for multiple FYI products as part of an editorial team;
• Makes contributions to the development of a growing suite of FYI science policy products; provides relevant information to AIP staff and Member Societies; regularly updates the FYI section of AIP website.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of two years of experience in the field of government relations or related field required or Master’s degree is preferred.
• Experience working in Congress, a federal agency or in federal relations for a corporation, organization or association is required.
• She/he must have knowledge and experience with science policy as well as an understanding of public policy formulation.
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills are required.
