Summary:
AIP is looking for a Social Media Specialist to join the Institute’s Marketing and Engagement Team. The Marketing and Engagement Team is charged with delivering excellence in engaging audiences with impactful content to advance AIP’s mission. 

The Social Media Specialist will work as an individual contributor, under limited supervision with AIP’s project owners and managers to craft content that will exist on AIP’s various digital platforms. The specialist will implement overall AIP audience engagement and development strategies, under the supervision of the Head of Marketing and Engagement. This role will manage and navigate ambiguous projects such as deploying AIP’s social media strategy, leveraging AIP content as the driving factor and utilizing AIP audience segmentation.

What You’ll Do:
• Curates and creates content (graphics, videos, etc.) for AIP digital properties, including website and social media.
• Manages organizational social media accounts, content calendar, and online engagement; monitors online conversations and sentiments around the Institute and the physical sciences.
• Manages social media accounts for key programs with keen eye for increasing online engagement.
• Coordinates programmatic social media accounts for marketing efforts; leads monthly social media meet ups to foster collaboration and conversation.
• Monitor analytics and metrics to gauge success of social media posts and ad campaigns. 
• Reports social media analytics and metrics to internal clients.
• Updates web content.
• Understanding of SEO and web traffic metrics/analytics
• Coordinates and evaluates social media advertising for internal and external clients.
• Manages Physics Today ad and business accounts.
• Participates in marketing development and strategy meetings with internal clients.
• Assists in execution of goals and deliverables of department.
• Assists in strategy execution to strengthen AIP brand and identity.
• Handles ad hoc copyediting, writing, reporting and administrative requests.
• Excellent analytical skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience with graphic design tools a plus.
• Stays informed on emerging digital strategies and trends.
• Other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Bring:
• Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations or journalism required.
• 3 years of relevant experience.
• Experience with social media engagement and best practices, particularly Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.
• Experience using planning/analytics tools such as Sprout Social.
• Experience producing email newsletters via MailChimp or similar platform.
• Proficiency with Excel as well as working knowledge of other Office 365 software.
• Experience working with an open-source content management system like Drupal or Wordpress.
• Enthusiasm for all things digital as well as an interest in science.

The team works in a flexible, hybrid schedule and reports to our offices in College Park, Maryland and Washington, DC as needed. That one day per week is somewhat flexible, depending on the schedule for a given week. Employees are required to reside in DMV metro area (Maryland, Virginia, or Washington, DC).
