The American Institute of Physics (AIP) is seeking an experienced and customer-focused Help Desk Technician. The successful candidate will be a resourceful problem solver who will provide excellent customer service while fielding, troubleshooting and addressing end-user support calls. The Help Desk technician will work with the IT services team to support and maintain end-user functionality and resolve end-user problems.


Responsibilities may include

  • Providing first and second level support and troubleshooting for service requests relating to end-user technology including but not limited to workstations, printers, and desktop software. Currently, the support is virtual via phone, Teams, Skype or Zoom.
  • Manage assigned support tickets carefully to provide quality customer service.
  • Perform tasks associated with end-user support; including but not limited to configuration and troubleshooting for end-user equipment.
  • Install and/or update end-user software.
  • Perform other IT Services tasks and responsibilities as needed.

*This role is currently 100% remote and will eventually switch back to our office environment as the Institute continues to respond to the coronavirus, government mandates and considers the best action to keep the AIP staff safe.

Bachelor’s degree with a major in Information Systems or related field required. 3 – 5 years of experience supporting Windows PCs, Laptops, and Mobile devices in a corporate environment required. Experience supporting Office 365 required. Must have a calm, positive, professional demeanor and superior interpersonal skills. Highly motivated with strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot effectively and escalate appropriately - working with the team to quickly find answers and deploy resolutions. Must be punctual and organized - able to work independently, with strong attention to detail. Cisco switch and router knowledge desired. Patching data cables and troubleshooting network connectivity experience desired.
