Summary:

The American Institute of Physics (AIP) is seeking a methodical, innovative and collaborative Oral Historian with a passion for gathering, preserving and interpreting the voices and memories of people, communities and participants of past events in the physical sciences.

 

The Oral Historian will conceptualize and develop a long-range plan for oral history projects in collaboration with the Director, manage the day to day operations of the oral history program, monitor schedules for completion for oral histories and advise and assist the oral history projects of AIP Member Societies and non-AIP historians.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in oral history, history of science, or related area, specializing in topics relevant to the development of the physical sciences and their communities required
  • 2 years’ experience with oral history interviewing
  • Ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary setting with archivists, librarians, historians, and other professionals
  • 2 years’ experience in management at a non-profit or educational institution preferred
  • Familiarity with digital research tools and online platforms used for digital history
  • Proofreading and oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attentiveness to detail
