Summary:

The Niels Bohr Library & Archives (NBLA) is seeking a full-time 8-month Wikipedian-in-Residence. The position provides the opportunity to create a comprehensive plan to extend the reach of NBLA collections into Wikimedia platforms and facilitate the development of Wikipedia workflows and projects within the NBLA. Special emphasis will be given to the Wenner Collection, which is comprised of about 3,400 rare books and serials on the history of physics from the 1500s to the 2010s. The successful candidate will help select significant works within the collection for digitization and inclusion on the NBLA online repository and Wikimedia.

Essential Functions

  • Create a comprehensive Wikimedia plan to highlight NBLA and history of physics resources, with a particular focus on material from the Wenner Collection.
  • Consult with NBLA staff on selection of Wenner Collection material to be digitized for inclusion in Wikimedia platforms.
  • Copyright clarification and permissions research for already-digitized material to be included in Wikimedia.
  • Develop Wikimedia workflows for the NBLA to use in future projects.
  • Conduct historical research and writing as necessary to support the NBLA digital outreach projects, Wikipedia inclusion, and other public programming.
  • Assist in creation of marketing plan and outreach.
  • Plan and implement an online Wikipedia edit-a-thon for history of physics.
  • Work as member of the Niels Bohr Library & Archives team, collaborate with AIP staff as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in humanities or related field
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Experience with historical research
  • Experience creating and editing Wikipedia pages
  • Ability to work with office computer software (particularly MS Access, Outlook, Word and Excel)
