Description


The American Institute of Physics is hiring a Science Policy Writer within FYI, an authoritative source of science policy news and analysis. Founded in 1989, FYI has built an influential subscriber base that includes many prominent figures in the U.S. scientific community, top agency officials, and congressional staff. The writer’s primary responsibility is to produce and edit content for multiple FYI products as part of an editorial team.

 

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Analyzing budget/policy proposals and outcomes for U.S. science agencies (FYI focuses on DOE, NSF, NASA, DOD, NOAA, NIST, NIH, and USGS);
  • Reporting on legislative activity, science agency initiatives, leadership changes, and other relevant policy developments;
  • Contributing content to a suite of FYI newsletters and resources, including web-based tools for tracking science budgets, legislation, and leaders;
  • Editing content written by other team members and helping to shape FYI’s editorial strategy;

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree and at least three years of experience in science policy analysis, policy reporting, or science writing.

Ability to write and edit content on tight deadlines.

Preferred applicants will have intensive writing experience and familiarity with federal science organizations.
