The Niels Bohr Library & Archives is a repository and clearinghouse for information in the history of physics, astronomy, geophysics and many others. As AIP’s pride and joy, the Library holds thousands of publications, photographs, and personal papers referenced by researchers and scholars alike.

As an outstanding resource for information, the Niels Bohr Library & Archives exists to collect, preserve, and present critical pieces of information that can be used by physics researchers and historians of today and tomorrow. 

Who you are:

AIP is seeking a part-time Digital Collections Assistant to help support the operations of the esteemed Niels Bohr Library & Archives. This is a temporary position with an expected length of 1 year.

As the Digital Collections Assistant, you will play a critical role in the maintenance and improvements of the Niels Bohr Library & Archives’ digital collections. You will participate in site user testing and analysis, and perform quality control evaluations of digital files. The Digital Collections Assistant, will work under a flexible schedule allowing for an equal split of remote work and on-site work in our office located in College Park, MD.

What you’ll do:

  • Assist NBL&A staff on user testing of current digital collections and user experience research to better serve the needs of researchers.
  • Create, perform quality control, edit, and ingest metadata and digital files into our digital collections platform.
  • Contribute to ongoing digital collections projects. Examples include creating MARC collection records in ILS, researching provenance and assigning Rights Statements to items, contributing to digital collections policies, performing surveys of digitized materials. and assistant with digitization projects.
  • Work with NBL&A staff on the planning and executing specific outreach efforts to communicate DAMS changes with users of our digital collections.
     

What you’ll bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • Experience in user testing, DAMS administration, metadata creation, copyright research, or other relevant areas.
  • Experience with or interest in learning XML, MODS, rights statements, MARC, LCSH, Islandora, and an interest in accessibility of digital collections.
