Description
The American Institute of Physics Niels Bohr Library & Archives is seeking a part-time Intern who will be responsible for copy cataloging monographs, periodicals management, and book preservation.

Essential Functions:
The intern will organize and keep track of book donations and check against book catalog for duplicates.  Maintain periodicals, including checking in all periodicals, claiming and locating missing journals, organizing them for shelving, and shifting if needed. Download book catalog records from OCLC; copy cataloging using the existing library systems; work with the Assistant Director to assign call numbers. Assist with book preservation and conservation projects, including basic book repair, updating library catalog records, assisting in book digitization projects, and other preservation duties as assigned. The intern will work 24 hrs per week. Our office is located within walking distance of the College Park Metro and University of Maryland.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and relevant library experience or interest in library career. Preference given to candidates currently enrolled or planning to enroll in an MLIS program. Subject knowledge in the history of science not required. Basic familiarity with library systems and procedures like catalogs and shelving. Ability to work with computer software (particularly Adobe Photoshop and MS Access, Outlook, Word and Excel). Ability to operate office machines, such as copiers and a variety of scanners. Attention to detail, flexibility, ability to manage multiple priorities, and ability to work effectively with library and archives staff. Must be able to lift 40 pound boxes of library materials. Must submit cover letter and resume with application packet.
