Description
The American Institute of Physics (AIP) is seeking a full-time Associate Historian for a three-year term with full benefits to help fulfill the AIP History Center’s mission to study the historical development of modern physics and allied sciences through publication of books, articles and Web exhibits, through oral history interviews, and through efforts to preserve professional papers of scientists and scientific institutions.  


Essential Functions:

The Associate Historian will seek funds for, and conduct projects using the history of physics and allied sciences for education and public information, working with an interdisciplinary group of historians, archivists and librarians. The Associate Historian will research for and conduct oral history interviews with scientists, particularly in support of Center’s history mission and its current research programs; edit transcripts of interviews; design and conduct education/public information projects; and assist in organization of early-career conference in history of physical science. 

 
Qualifications:
  • Advanced training in methods of historical research. 
  • Recent Ph.D. in the history of science (physical sciences) or equivalent is desired. 
  • Research, writing and editing skills are essential; administrative ability highly desired. 
  • Familiarity with Web-related software required.
