Summary:
The Deputy Executive Officer (DEO) is a newly created role working in partnership with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in the development and implementation of the Institute’s strategic plans. The DEO will be an advisor to the CEO in key matters associated with the Institute’s direction and focus. Reporting to the DEO are the following: Senior Director Member Society and Business Development, Senior Director News and Magazines, and Senior Director Education and Research. The DEO deputizes for the CEO as required, with internal and external stakeholders. The DEO collaborates with senior management to translate organizational strategic plans into program specific goals and operational plans, and oversees the team approach to plan implementation.

Key Position Requirements:

• Master’s Degree or higher (PhD preferred) in a field of the Physical Sciences or Engineering.
• 7+ years of relevant executive leadership experience in a complex organization of comparable size and scope in the not-for-profit, academic, private, and/or public sectors.
• Proven confidence and ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders across many sectors.
• S/he will thoughtfully implement strategic planning and change efforts in an organization operating in a dynamic environment.
• Demonstrable experience in working effectively and collegially with volunteer leaders in a not-for-profit or academic institution, staff, and other stakeholders.
• Membership in at least one physical sciences association, ideally an AIP Member Society preferred.
• Certified Association Executive (CAE) certification beneficial.
