Essential Functions
The American Institute of Physics is seeking a seasoned media professional who will be responsible for organizing and executing all aspects of AIP's active media services program. The ideal candidate is an experienced manager of people who also enjoys writing and editing creative copy on a day-to-day basis. Key responsibilities include supervising 4-5 staff members, managing workflow and contributing to AIP's media products and services, including press releases, outreach videos, press events and webcasts.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in a relevant field of science, communication or journalism.
5+ years supervisory experience and ability to mentor all levels of professional staff.
5+ years of project management and ability to meet multiple, tight overlapping deadlines.
10+ years working in PR, communication or journalism.
Experience pitching local, national and international reporters.
Excellent writing and editing abilities; familiarity with AP style.
Experience overseeing budgets, contracts, invoices and freelance writers and editors.
Deep knowledge of the physical sciences or a demonstrated interest in learning about technical topics.
Desired Qualifications:
Graduate degree in a field of science, PR or science journalism.
Experience with photography, webcasting and/or video production.
Ability to use social media to support PR campaigns.
Knowledge of nonprofit environments, especially scientific societies.
Experience with scientific meetings and academic journals.
