Description

The American Institute of Physics (AIP) is seeking a part-time Intern for the Education program of the Society of Physics Students (SPS) who will be responsible for assisting with a variety of Sigma Pi Sigma and SPS programs. Sigma Pi Sigma and SPS are chapter-based societies that support the physics and astronomy higher education community.  The intern will work under the supervision of the Associate Director, Education Programs and will be responsible for developing and disseminating social media content, communicating with members and chapters to promote engagement, assisting with the editing, compiling, and distribution of two print publications (The SPS Observer and Radiations), organizing and inventorying promotional materials, assisting with maintenance of the SPS/Sigma Pi Sigma membership database and assembling materials for workshops and conferences. They will work with staff to provide exceptional service to members and volunteers, make updates to program-related promotional materials, and assist with other tasks as assigned. The intern will work up to 10 hrs per week. Our office is located within walking distance of the College Park Metro and University of Maryland.

 

Qualifications:

At least two years of college completed with an interest in science, education, communications, and/or non-profits.  Must be dependable, detail-oriented and internet-savvy with strong oral presentation and writing skills. Interest in STEM education beneficial. Experience in computer applications including Microsoft Word and Excel are required. Familiarity with databases preferred. Physical ability to perform lifting, assembly and disassembly of display components. The ideal candidate will have proven ability to work within a diverse team environment. Preference will be given to candidates available through May 2019.
